Cisco UC520 Custom Auto Attendant Script CUE Config with GDM

cue.jpgI recently reconfigured the auto attendant script for a small office UC520 Voip phone system and thought I would share my experience. For the most part, the UC520 default AA system script is functional but with some limitations. Not being able to change the main menu prompt and options (press 1 for...etc.) were the main issues. I ended up modifying and using the aa_sample1.aef script instead. It can be downloaded from Cisco's website. First I made some modifications to the script Menu. The DialByName function is nice but is configured for last name then first name searching. Some inbound callers may only know the first name. One plus for the default AA script is that it does have the by first name option. This office only has 8 users so I opted to do an extension roll call from a custom prompt. This probably wouldnt be ideal for a larger office. For that to work, I made some changes to the DialByName Menu option. In the CUE editor I deleted the existing objects under the Menu > DialByName option and replaced them with a copy of the DialByExtn objects.

aamenu.jpgThe only difference now between the 2 DialBy menu options is the name and the prompt. I also wanted to include a General Delivery Mailbox option in the main menu so I created a GDM option by duplicating the Operator option and adding a GDM variable for the GDM extension.

gdmoption.jpg gdmvar.jpgCreating the custom prompts was the final tweak. Before recording the prompts I updated the script Set variables with the name of my new prompts.

promptvar.jpgI used the AVT function to record 4 new prompts. From the CUE Admin web site, I downloaded the prompts and re-named them CP_MainMenu.wav, CP_EnterExt.wav, OfficeDir.wav and CP_Welcome.wav then uploaded them back.

aaprompts.jpgNext, I enabled the script, selected my new welcome prompt and configured the operator and gdm extensions.

aaconfig.jpgThe final auto attendant flow is similar to the following:

Welcome prompt (CP_Welcome.wav): "Welcome to 808techblog.com"

Main menu prompt (CP_MainMenu.wav): "If you know the extension of the person you are trying to reach press 1, for a dial by name directory press 2, for the general delivery mailbox press 3, for the operator press 0"

Option 1 prompt (CP_EnterExt.wav): "Please dial the extension followed by the # key"
Option 2 prompt (CP_OfficeDir.wav): "Please dial the extension followed by the # key, for Bob dial 201, for Bill 202, etc"

This custom auto attendant script works fine for a small office but may not meet the needs of a larger office. Check it out for yourself. Final AA script available for download below. Any thoughts, suggestions welcome.

This is a great step by step in how to config a scrip, I tried to open the scrip that you created but it doesn't let me.

Could you send me the link of where exactly download the script aa_sample1.aef I already look all over cisco.com but no success.

Thank you for any help that you can provide.

Leo

Leo, you can download the version of the aa_sample1.aef I used from Cisco using the link below.

http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/Software/Tablebuild/doftp.pl?ftpfile=/cisco/voice/cue/2.3.1/CUE-AA-S6-AASample1-2.3.1.zip

You'll need a CCO login to download. Thank you for your comment.

One thing I have found with CME / UC520 scripts is that version of CUE is important when opening and working with these files. For example I could not open a script with a CUE Editor that did not exactly match.

So in the end, check the version of CUE you a have install via the Web Gui on UC520 then make sure your CUE-Editor matches and that all scripts are built with those versions.

CUE Editor 2.3(4) is the version I used to edit the aa_sample1.aef script. Thanks Kenny for your comment.

Many thanks for the posting..

Was wondering if I can add it to my webpage http://www.questivity.com/uc520.html for the benefit of my readers..

Send me other interesting stuff that you would like to share.

I have a question and I know this is an old post but is there a way to make an auto attendant select a default option if the caller does not press anything instead of terminating the call?

Are we supposed to be able to change options using the Configuration Assistant or do all the options that we want have to be done in the script editor? I downloaded your script and uploaded it to my uc540 and when I select to use it I can't configure anything.

For this script the configurable options through the CUE admin page are Call-In number, GDM, welcome prompt and Operator extensions. Most other options like the name of the wav files or menu options would need to be changed through the script editor. Hope that helps.
